The Imperial Provinces
The Imperial Provinces are the collective names for the various minor nations that the Empire of Humanity was broken into by the Second Chaos Incursion, some three hundred years ago. They are incredibly human dominant, though some are more begrudgingly acceptant of other species than others. The worship of the Imperial Cult is still the dominant faith, but it carries with it notes of bitterness – after all, it was founded on the enmity between the Imperial government and non-humans, with the Small Gods of Chaos as its existential threats to life and soul. And then the empire was shattered by those enemies, and largely ignored. Interestingly, a uniquely fanatical and zealous form of Chaos worship has rapidly grown to become the second most followed religion, seemingly based around the idea that if you cannot beat them, use their tools.
The Imperial Provinces are somewhat stratified, aggressive, and insular, with a culture of secrecy and scrutiny that has turned to grudges and isolation. There are three primary castes, being the lowly peasants that farm for a living and are often at mercy of whatever lays in the darkness, the cityfolk and burghers that count their coins in relative safety while glaring at the finery of their neighbours, and the landed aristocracy that lament their lessened ability to spend lives like spilling water.

Provinces
Despite the name, the Imperial Provinces are in no way united following the breakup of the Empire - instead, they will unite against common threats, but will happily backstab, steal, and even outright invade one another. Knowhere can this be seen more with the ultimate fate of the Kingdom of Chuder.
Medilan
Medilan is a small nation at the rough centre of the Imperial Provinces, once holding the fortress-city that was the nation's capital. Now, it consists almost solely of that colossal city, surrounded by miles of urban centre recovering from the slums of refugee life and the fires of the final battle that saw the Empire's fall.

Languages
The primary spoken language is Ester. Much of the legal documentation, theological texts, arcane research and the like is written in the legal and academic tongue adopted by the nation, Dagzi. Finally, most traders and travellers make heavy use of Tradetongue.
Demographics
Note that while the values listed are relatively accurate, Humans make up the overwhelming masses within cities. You will usually have a handful of non-human families within a given city at the very most, and only begrudgingly accepted if they provide an important role in that city. Most others live in outlying villages, homesteads, or run their own communities within Imperial borders.
